My journey as an entrepreneur began with challenges that tested my resolve and reshaped my dreams. In 2014, life took an unexpected turn when I learned of my mother’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Faced with this devastating news, I made the difficult decision to put my education and career on hold to ensure she received the best possible care. This period was marked by emotional and financial strain, but my commitment to my mother’s well-being was unwavering.
After several years, I returned to university to complete my ACCA Accounting qualification, determined to rebuild my life and career. Yet, the road ahead was far from smooth. Despite my qualifications, I faced a tough job market, struggling to secure work in my field. Financial hardships mounted, but I refused to give up. To pass the time and contribute wherever I could, I began volunteering for a neighbour, doing odd tasks and helping out. I relentlessly sent out hundreds of resumes, walked miles knocking on doors, and made countless calls—only to face repeated rejections. It was a difficult time, but I believed that eventually, a door would open.
That door opened at a small restaurant where I had dropped off my resume. The owner offered me a job as a dishwasher, and despite it not being in my field, I eagerly accepted. I wasn’t going to let pride stand in the way of an opportunity. Within two months, I was not only washing dishes but also prepping food, cleaning the kitchen, and managing stock. The owner, impressed by my work ethic and punctuality, soon learned of my accounting background and offered me a position as their bookkeeper. This chance encounter reignited my passion and marked the beginning of my deeper connection with the food and beverage industry.
Through these experiences, I developed a profound respect and understanding of the challenges faced by restaurant owners and small business operators in the food and beverage sector. I knew firsthand the importance of having reliable support, especially in managing finances, which is often a source of stress for many. This personal experience instilled in me a deep sense of empathy and a desire to help others overcome their own challenges. It was this resolve that led me to establish BondEsq Accounting and Bookkeeping Services, a firm dedicated to supporting small businesses in the food and beverage industry.
BondEsq is more than just an accounting service; it’s a reflection of my journey and my belief that success is possible even in the face of adversity. I understand the challenges that restaurant owners and food and beverage entrepreneurs face because I’ve lived them. My story is a testament to the power of resilience, and through BondEsq, I am committed to helping others achieve their dreams.
